EVALUATION CRITERIA

1.   Will the cardboard pieces be properly glued or taped?

2.   Will the net be stable by the time we place it inside the artefact?

3.   Will the ping pong balls be properly sorted from the marbles?

4.   Will the balls continue to go to their respective containers after the sorting?

5.   Will the painting of the artefact affect its efficiency?

DESIGN REQUIREMENT

Design, make and fit a simple device that will sort table tennis balls and marbles. From an elevated bin, the balls and marbles should travel a lane or chute down to another container.

a.  The container or compartment should have two partitions: one for the table tennis balls and the other for the marbles.

b.  Along the lane or chute, the balls and marbles should be able to sort until it reaches the compartment intended for each of them.

c.   The artefact should be made of cardboard, illustration board or chipboard.

d.  Containers (bin and compartment) should not exceed twenty (20) centimeters in length, width and height.

e.   Length of the lane or chute varies depending on the design.

DESIGN BRIEF

A ball sorter is a machine that
separates the balls
affected by the contamination away
from the balls that are still unaffected and clean.

After the machine sorts these balls,
they will then be placed in dry containers.
One for the infected balls and
another one for the purified ones.

DESIGN TASK

Our client’s company is almost bankrupt due to the infection of the factory he owns. He needed some help.

Eventually, he asked us to make a design of a ball sorter that is hoped to resolve the problem. He wanted us to sort the contaminated marbles from the purified table tennis balls.

And of course, who are we to decline to that offer. We’ll surely be innovative in our new project and we’ll do our best to succeed.
